Our Story

Founded in 1986, Pippa’s Group began as a small specialist playgroup in Pippa Campbell’s home in Lewes, following an invitation from Lewes Children’s Social Services. Together with Community Family Worker Jean Toy, Pippa created a nurturing environment where children could learn, play, and thrive. Over the years, the group grew steadily and became a much-valued part of the local community.
In 1999, Pippa’s Group became a registered charity, helping to secure its future and expand the support it could offer to local children and families. This marked the beginning of the fundraising efforts that continue to sustain and develop the nursery today.
As demand for places increased, the nursery moved in 2008 to a purpose-built setting within the grounds of Pells Church of England Primary School, providing more space for children to learn, explore, and play. Pells School sadly closed in 2016 leaving the future of the nursery was uncertain. However, through the determination of the Trustees and support from the local community, Pippa’s Group secured a permanent home in 2017 at the Landport Community Hub. This important achievement ensured the long-term future of the nursery and enabled it to continue serving local families for years to come. 2026 marked the 40th Anniversary of Pippa's Group, Families, former staff, supporters, and even past pupils returned to celebrate the nursery’s lasting impact across generations of local families.
Today, Pippa’s Group remains a thriving, community-focused nursery, building on a proud history of providing a warm, supportive, and inclusive environment where every child can flourish.
